Bilingual Literacy Trainer & Consultant
The Bilingual Literacy Trainer and Consultant works closely with The Wonder of Reading’s (WoR) Volunteer Reading Partner and Family Reading Programs, to develop and conduct literacy-based trainings for adults working with elementary school students who are struggling with their literacy skills.
Position Expectations
1. Must be able to conduct engaging and effective literacy trainings for adult reading partners, in Spanish and English. Trainings must be consistent with The Wonder of Reading’s mission and goals, and utilize strategies geared towards a one-on-one mentoring session. A presentation outline as well as our Coaching for Literacy manual is provided.
2. Must be available to conduct trainings at least twice per month Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and Saturday availability a plus.
Volunteer Reading Partner Program: each training session is scheduled for 8:45am-12:15pm, Tuesdays-Thursdays (includes set-up and Q&A time) Family Reading Program: 2.5 hours, any time between 8:00am-6:00pm (includes set-up and Q&A time)
3. Must possess reliable transportation and be willing to travel to school locations throughout the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley areas.
4. Must be willing to provide assistance with training development, research, and evaluation on an annual basis.
Qualifications
1. Must have at least 3 years of full time teaching experience (grades 1-6) including a valid teaching credential.
2. Masters degree in Education (Ph.D a plus) with proven expertise in teaching elementary literacy and language arts.
3. Demonstrated facilitation and presentation skills including ability to inspire and motivate adults from a variety of backgrounds.
4. Familiarity with urban public school systems, particularly the Los Angeles Unified School District. Experience working in under-resourced schools. Experience working in and with Spanish-speaking populations.
5. Ability to interact with school administrators, teachers, parents, community members, and donors with tact, sensitivity, diplomacy, and composure.
6. Have excellent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and English. Must be comfortable conducting trainings entirely in Spanish.

Compensation
Volunteer Reading Partner Program: $375 per training session + mileage
Family Reading Program: $300 per training session + mileage
