In 2008, only 38% of Los Angeles fifth-graders scored high enough on California’s English language arts tests to qualify as ready to enter sixth grade.

The Wonder of Reading seeks to change that dismal statistic. Over 130,000 elementary-age youngsters throughout Greater Los Angeles attend our 206 partner schools. Each school has a beautifully renovated library, restocked with $10,000 of new books. More than 5,000 volunteers have been trained as literacy mentors for struggling students at these schools.
